One of these journals/magazines, in particular, is entitled, "Bust Down the Door and Eat All the Chickens". The magazine has been active since 2003 and is still chugging along, thanks to the efforts of editor and author, Bradley Sands and members of the "Bizarro Fiction" literary community. Please familiarize yourself with these guys, if you have the time and(or) the interest. You might like what they're doing. Reviews for "Expiration Date": "...I think the Addams Family would appear normal in comparison..." -- Almost Normal Comics "...great page designs, hand lettering and gorgeous painted cover make this worth checking out for the artwork alone..." -- Comic Book Galaxy "...like Curfman's films, this beautifully illustrated graphic novel somehow manages to be disturbingly grotesque, yet undeniably sweet..." -- Die Medien Unterirdisch (Germany) "...you will find art that is expressive but also disturbing, writing that is dark, and frankly unpleasant..." -- www.popthought.com "Expiration Date: A Graphic Novel" - Review from Amazon.com Schizophrenia, forks, horrors, and kitties! - Its Christmas! Time for Dad to take out the decoration books and slap the meat on the walls, making the world beautiful1 Then he needs to get the cute dead kittens and make sure they is NOO liquid left in them, lest they jump up and RUIN everything! Then its off to the backyard to did up the tree, and to daughter's room to see her eyes when she gets those cute little guys out. And let's hope that the attic doesn't spoil things for us - or else there will be SOMETHING to pay. When you look into oddity, you sometimes find things that are haunting and alluring at the same time. When you look into something cruel and yet not, you oftentimes these qualities and yet something that goes a bit further and seems boldly frightening. That is what Expiration Date seems to be - a look into the mind of something that seems schizophrenic and alluring, with horrors hiding in the same places that smiles like to go. Parts of the story don't seem to make sense and yet they do. Some
of the book is cruel without purpose and yet you can taste the purpose
there. Like a child sticking a battery to its tongue, you can almost
understand why they wanted to collect energy. I picked this book up by mistake but, looking back, I am glad i have a copy. It took something and it made it something else, taking words like "family" and "holiday" and gruesomely making it home. It also has a point of sorts, but that point is well hidden. It isn't about the hurting or the things that happen in the attic or even in some holly jolly notions. It seems to be in the swinging back and forth that transpires, making things seem horrible and yet like you missed just one sentence and need to find it to understand. It isn't for the weak of heart of the shallow stomach, but it is for people who want to explore new dimensions. I'm glad i took my ticket out and boarded this bizarre ride - it is one in a million. June 2, 2010: Where to start... sorry for the long delay... lots going on...
